Chamomile Flowers - from
Chamomile flowers (most commonly German chamomile, Matricaria chamomilla, and Roman chamomile, Chamaemelum nobile) are gentle, aromatic herbs traditionally used to support relaxation and soothe the body. They are best known for their calming effects on the nervous system, making chamomile tea a popular choice for easing occasional stress, restlessness, and supporting more restful sleep.
Chamomile is also widely used for digestive comfort. It may help soothe occasional indigestion, gas, and mild stomach cramping, and is often taken after meals or before bed. Thanks to its naturally occurring plant compounds, chamomile has also been used to support a healthy inflammatory response and provide gentle soothing support for irritated tissues.
Topically, chamomile is commonly used in compresses, rinses, and skincare to calm minor skin irritation and dryness. In herbal traditions, it’s also used as a mild mouth rinse to soothe oral discomfort.
Contraindications & cautions: Avoid chamomile if you have a known allergy to plants in the daisy/ragweed family (Asteraceae/Compositae), as allergic reactions can occur. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking blood thinners (anticoagulants/antiplatelet medications), or preparing for surgery, consult a qualified healthcare professional before using chamomile regularly or in concentrated forms. Discontinue use and seek medical advice if you experience signs of an allergic reaction (such as itching, swelling, or trouble breathing).
